Captain Planet Redesign

This next batch of images are character redesigns I've been cooking up as of late.

My goal is to successfully redesign and re-imagine each hero and villain from the original Captain Planet cartoon. I want to evolve it into something that would be watchable by today's audience and standards. Why? I guess I just like the concept of bringing back characters I grew up with as a kid.

First up is Cap himself. My first act in this venture was to get rid of the green mullet right away. Some say it's what makes him awesome. Personally, I think it dates him. So I chopped that bad boy off. Next, I covered up his abs, arms and legs. I think it makes him look a bit more dignified and less "Tarzan with super powers".

With this and the rest of the images of this series, you might notice the style being reminiscent of other artists' work. This is probably because I looked to current animated series with teenagers in them. Things like Ben 10 and Spectacular Spider-Man since those shows have a nice dynamic energy and do well with their demographic. But also I really like the sleek look of the character designs in those types of shows as well.

As far as his suit goes, I've been struggling to figure out which design I like best. I'm leaning towards #5, but I think I might play with more varieties.
